AFRICAN FASHION HISTORY KNOWLEDGE DATABASE

CIAFE’s History of African Fashion Database is a knowledge bank dedicated to equipping people with the core information of Africa’s impact and influence on the fashion industry.

It comprises pioneers and new generation designers who have changed the face of what fashion is on the continent and beyond through innovation, craft, and design. The information gathered includes who they are, what they do, where they are from, and examples of their work.

It serves as an archive curated to preserve the change-makers who have led the narrative in defining and interpreting what African Fashion is on a global front.

As an educational tool, it aims to break down and examine the achievements of African designers on the continent and in the diaspora throughout history.

The initiative powered by the Council for International African Fashion Education is to explore how designers tell the African story through fashion.
