INITIATIVE

The CIAFE Language Centre

Established to contribute to breaking the language barrier in the African and diasporan fashion industry

Regardless of your reasons for learning a foreign language, the language you learn can have an impact on your potential career path. For this reason, many people who are aiming to enter a certain profession learn the language that goes with it. The Language Centre initiative by CIAFE was created to contribute to breaking language barriers globally. Under this initiative, CIAFE has been able to put out three virtual classes, the French, Portuguese and Italian classes have been tremendously beneficial to the attendees of the class, allowing us to keep realising our goal of teaching people in different languages, to help bridge the language barrier gap in communicating with other African countries and other countries of the world.

Italian Course: Cohort 1

In the fashion industry, Italy is a powerhouse and demonstrating fluency in your spoken Italian will significantly improve your career prospects. This is why in September 2022, The CIAFE Language Centre held 'The Italian Class', a 4-week language course to teach basic Italian terms and fundamental terms to know in fashion. Alongside basic Italian terms, the class taught fundamental terms to know in fashion and the sessions were split into two parts, the first hour of the class is theory lessons delivered by the Italian tutor and the second hour of the class is a practical session with fellow participants. This structure helped the learners hold conversations with people within the fashion industry. The course is beneficial for students, professionals, academics and educators in the fashion community.
